The Project
Your Package Development Plan
Every Certificate of Mastery student builds a Package Development Plan (PDP)—a real deliverable, not a case study. You'll work 1-on-1 with a PhD mentor who pushes you to apply what you're learning directly to your own goals, whether that's a live responsibility at work or the portfolio that moves your career forward.

“This program has influenced my future in the packaging industry, as before this program, I only viewed packaging as something that protected the products that I ordered. Now I understand that it goes way beyond that consumer mindset, and that packaging decisions actually affect all parts of the supply chain, including manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and more. This program has allowed me to apply what I have learned to my career in supply chain management, especially during my time at Amazon.”
Who It's For
One certificate. Two ways to use it.
However you choose to use it, you'll learn the language of packaging—the vocabulary that lets you speak with authority across packaging materials, processes, and technologies.
Individual
If you have a responsibility at work
Use your PDP to optimize, create, or hone the exact task in front of you—development, sourcing, sustainability, supply chain, whatever it is—with 1-on-1 PhD mentorship pushing you the whole way.
If you want to invest in yourself
Use the same framework to build a portfolio project in the industry or sector of your choice, proving you command the materials, processes, and technologies of packaging—with 1-on-1 PhD mentorship—and walk away with both a credential and a body of work you can point to.
Team
Bringing a team?
R&D, procurement, and logistics each touch packaging—but rarely speak the same language about it. Enroll one person from each function in a private Certificate of Mastery cohort, and together they become your in-house packaging team: R&D speaking materials and design, procurement speaking sourcing and cost, logistics speaking supply chain and compliance—all fluent, all aligned, all in 12 weeks.
“The Certificate of Mastery is a great program for both up-and-coming professionals curious to know more about packaging engineering as well as seasoned packaging professionals who are looking to do deeper dives and obtain additional knowledge; very fun, useful and engaging overall!”
Program & Curriculum
Executive-level education, designed to be agile.

Trusted by packaging leaders

“At this point in my career, I was searching for an educational opportunity with the most comprehensive, data driven, and practical program and the Certificate of Mastery offered that in droves. I was able to use my background to traverse other packaging disciplines and learn all new platforms I had interacted with but never had the chance to dive in. I recommend this program whether you’re just starting in packaging or even with several years under your belt.”
“The Certificate of Mastery program offers valuable insights into the latest packaging trends and processes. It also provides an excellent framework for project management. I highly encourage anyone who is interested in taking their packaging knowledge to the next level to take this course.”
“I loved the fact that the Certificate of Mastery program was an interactive online series that inspired my creativity and enabled my ability to use new tools to take back to Nissan North America, Inc. It allowed me to implement an effective and efficient packaging process to help not only me, but my colleagues in their everyday performance on the job.”
“Although I am currently in the corrugated industry this course gave me a great refresher on developing packaging for our current customers and new prospects. Very detailed and insightful into the “why” of consumer buying decisions. I use the framework for the project development plan daily and have asked my team of Account Managers and Designers to focus on key elements of the plan, specifically the needs analysis and market research portions.”
“The Certificate of Mastery is a very complete and inspiring program, its content has contributed to reinforce my knowledge in key areas such as materials, production processes, and supply chain. This allowed me to keep growing as a packaging professional and will further contribute to strengthen my value proposition and packaging solutions to my customers.”
“The Certificate of Mastery was a constructive overview of all things packaging! The coursework provided was informational and applicable to everyday practices within our organization; laying the groundwork for what it takes to launch a package.”

- The Certificate of Mastery is a line on your resume—it's issued by Clemson University's Center for Corporate Learning.
- Certificate of Mastery vs. CPS
CPS (Certificate of Packaging Science) is the language of packaging—the core knowledge needed to speak and understand the industry, covered in 12 foundational courses over up to 6 months, self-paced, with email-based instructor access. All of CPS is included in Certificate of Mastery.
Certificate of Mastery is for someone who wants to apply that language to a real project or portfolio—and because what you're trying to do has likely never been done exactly that way before, you'll work one-on-one with a dedicated PhD professor who provides weekly office hours, personalized feedback, and coaching throughout the three-month program (80 hours across 14 courses, including Project Management, Human Factors, and the capstone Packaging Development Plan).
CPS is a Packaging School credential; Certificate of Mastery is a Clemson University credential and requires a higher price point.
