Halloween. Packaging. As I set out to whip up a quick blog post about the correlation between the two, I quickly realized that there is only one thing to write about—the candy.
It’s the most important part of Halloween, in my opinion. Debate surrounds the origin of the begging-for-candy-from-strangers aspect of the holiday, but trick-or-treating has been a Halloween tradition in the United States and other countries for more than a century.
Packaging, at its simplest level, is material used to wrap or protect goods. And in the case of trick or treating, the means by which you carry your candy could be considered packaging right?! (Just go with me on this one.) We use a bag/basket/box to protect those most sacred goods of the night. It is the packaging for ALL of our Halloween treats. But, getting around to our topic of debate, what is the BEST way to protect and transport these precious goods—pillowcase or iconic plastic bucket?
PILLOWCASE
Pro: Pillowcases are big and can hold oodles and oodles of candy.
Con: Pillowcases are not that festive and are sometimes strained from overuse.
PLASTIC BUCKETS
Pro: They are very festive and you can choose one that compliments your costume. Are you a witch? Carry around a cauldron for your bucket.
Con: They don’t fit as much candy as a pillowcase and also shatter into a million shards when your parent steps on them in the garage.
What is your favorite way to package your Halloween candy?!
