Transportation

Compare transportation modes, including FTL and LTL, and evaluate how load security and testing requirements influence packaging decisions.

What you will learn

Shipping automotive parts as freight can be a hassle. It is important to transport vehicle parts safely, on time, and wherever they are required. It is critical to understand the different transport modes and evaluate the packaging for each decision point in the supply chain. This course starts with an introduction to the automotive packaging industry and provides the fundamental knowledge necessary to get you up to speed in this vast sector of packaging. We’ll overview the packaging processes involved in packaging production, overseas distribution, and after sales operations. This course outlines different transportation modes such as air, road, truck, and ocean transportation that are possible within the automotive supply chain. We will discuss alternative shipping methods such as FTL versus LTL shipments and how they affect the packaging decision process as well as handling. Load security measures and tools are part of this course, as well as an introduction to different transport testing methods such as drop and vibration testing.
