Join Jane Scates, a seasoned structural designer, as she instructs you in the art of corrugated design. Jane searched everywhere for a basic how-to-design course, but there wasn't one out there that actually showed how to design with corrugated. Wanting to provide a solid corrugated design course, Jane, along with the amazing team at the Packaging School, developed this course to meet that need.
What you will learn
In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of corrugated, how to identify corrugated board, and how to use it. Using the knowledge from the first unit, you will then be instructed in how to design a pad, a roll or scored sheet, a regular slotted carton (RSC), a one-piece folder (OPF), a tray, a die-cut mailer, and a tray with interlocking dividers.
Course Objectives
Identify different types of corrugated board, including flute types, thicknesses, and strength equivalencies
Explain key structural properties of corrugated materials (e.g., outside gain, inside loss, and cross-section behavior)
Apply basic design principles to create simple corrugated structures like pads and scored sheets
Design functional corrugated components, including: Regular Slotted Cartons (RSC), One-Piece Folders (OPF), Basic and Stitched Trays, Die-cut Mailers (with various rollover and flap configurations), Trays (with tabbed and locking dividers)
Convert fractional measurements to decimal values for accurate material layout and cutting
Differentiate between mathematical and manufactured design approaches for standard corrugated boxes
Utilize provided EPS files and templates to create or modify corrugated packaging prototypes
Demonstrate practical problem-solving skills in designing for real-world corrugated packaging needs
